New York Power Authority Barge Removal
Owner: New York Power Authority
Location: Niagara Falls, New York
Facility Type: Government
Wargo was contracted to remove and dismantle the Buckhorn Island Barge for the New York Power Authority in Niagara Falls, New York. Wargo completed coordination and obtained all necessary permits and authorizations from the New York State Department of Transportation, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The stone ballast was removed from the barge and a ramp was cut into the shoreline. The barge was extracted from the water and brought onto dry land using several pieces of heavy equipment simultaneously. Once out of the water, a large shear was able to reduce the barge to small manageable pieces for recycling. Once the steel was removed off site, the shoreline was restored to its original condition.
